- This is the fourth meeting between the Great Danes and the Catamounts and all four have come since 2010.
- In 2010, No. 2 UVM topped No. 7 Albany, 61-36. The Catamounts went on to win the title, the last one for Vermont.
- No. 2 Albany beat No. 7 Vermont, 74-61, in the 2012 quarterfinals. The Great Danes went on to win their first of four-straight titles.
- No. 2 Albany also defeated No. 7 Vermont last season in Binghamton, 63-33

- Binghamton is 2-0 all-time vs. UMBC in the America East Championship.
- The Bearcats beat the Retrievers in the 2009 quarterfinals, 66-54, and in the 2006 quarterfinals, 72-66, in overtime.
- Both times the teams met previously in the tournament, Binghamton was the four seed and UMBC was the five seed.
