4 Student-Athletes Honored in #AEWLAX Weekly Awards

BOSTON  -  Vermont and Stony Brook each won a pair of non-conference games to highlight the week in America East women's lacrosse. The Catamounts earned wins over Quinnipiac and Siena, posting double-digit goals in both games. The Seawolves made a trip to the West Coast and played three games last week, falling to top-10 USC before beating both San Diego State and Delaware. A pair of student-athletes also hit career milestones, as Stony Brook's Courtney Murphy became the program's all-time career scoring leader and Albany's Rachel Bowles became the program's all-time career points leader.

Here are the week 6 award winners: 

Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Courtney Murphy, Stony Brook, Jr., A, Shirley, N.Y.

  • Totaled 15 goals and 16 points in a 2-1 week for the Seawolves.
  • Scored five goals in a loss to No. 12/9 USC.
  • Posted five more goals in a win over San Diego State.
  • Once again had five goals to go with an assist in a win over Delaware.
  • Finished the week with a .750 shooting percentage.
  • Broke Demmianne Cook's program record of 158 career goals in Saturday's win over Delaware

Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Vanessa VanderZalm, Vermont, Sr., M, Pelham, Ontario

  • Totaled 10 goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for the Catamounts.
  • Notched four goals and one assist in a win over Quinnipiac.
  • Tied a career high with eight points, scoring six goals and adding two assists in a win over Siena.
  • Scored 10 goals on 14 shots on net.
  • Also had eight ground balls and six draw controls.

Defensive Player of the Week
Allie Rodgers, Binghamton, Sr., D, Baldwin, N.Y.

  • Helped the Binghamton defense allow just seven goals in a win over Sacred Heart.
  • Picked-up three ground balls and caused five turnovers in the victory.
  • Also added a goal in the win.
  • Helped Bearcats hold Pioneers to single-digit goals for first time in 2016

Rookie of the Week
Maddy Kuras, Vermont, Fr., GK, Maple Grove, Minn.

  • Picked-up a pair of wins in net for the Catamounts over Quinnipiac and Siena.
  • Had a 6.74 goals against-average and a .552 save percentage.
  • Made 16 saves over two games.

Notes

  • Stony Brook junior Courtney Murphy broke the program's career goals record with the 159th of her career vs. Delaware on Saturday.
  • Albany senior Rachel Bowles broke the program's career points record, notching the 193rd of her career vs. Wagner on Saturday.
