ATLANTA - UMBC swimming & diving standout Emily Escobedo made history over the weekend, becoming the first Retriever and first America East swimmer to earn All-America status at the NCAA Championships.

Escobedo, a three-time Most Outstanding Swimmer at the America East Championship, placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke and earned the bronze medal with a time of 2:06.43. She scored points in the national meet for the second time in as many days as she also earned in addition to the honorable mention All-America status in the 100-yard breast.

Escobedo's performance led UMBC to a 29th place finish in the team standings, the best-ever finish for an America East program.

Escobedo is eighth America East student-athlete to earn All-America status during the 2015-16 academic year.
