SYRACUSE, N.Y. - A historic season for the Albany women's basketball team came to a close on Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, as the Great Danes fell to No. 4 seed Syracuse, 76-59, in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Second Round.
The Great Danes finish the year with a 28-5 mark and their fifth-straight America East title. Topping that, Albany also grabbed its first-ever NCAA win over Florida on Friday to become just the fifth team in America East history to advance to the round of 32.
Shereesha Richards poured in a team-high 23 points to go with 14 rebounds. She finishes her career second on the America East scoring list with 2,440 points, second only to Maine great Cindy Blodgett (3,005 points). She also finished sixth on the all-time rebounding list with 1,053 career boards.
Syracuse was led by Brittany Sykes, who scored 24 pints, while Alexis Peterson added 22.
