DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire’s Elinor Purrier and Drew Piazza are America East’s latest track & field All-Americans as the duo each earned All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.
Purrier, a sophomore, finished third in the women’s mile run with a time of 4:38.42 seconds. The finish was the best of a UNH track & field athlete in program history. The All-America recognition is the third of her career after she earned first-team status in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships and was a second-team honoree in the mile at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Piazza, a junior, finished eighth in the 800-meter run preliminaries and earned second team All-American recognition. Piazza missed the cut to compete in the finals by just 0.06 seconds.
Stony Brook’s Christina Melian competed in the 5,000-meter run by posting one of the top 16 qualifying times in the nation this year, but did not finish the race, exiting with three laps remaining.
