Four America East men's basketball teams will play in the postseason for the second-straight year as Stony Brook, Albany, Vermont and New Hampshire will all continue their seasons this week. It's the second-most postseason participants the conference has ever had, second only to the five teams that made postseason appearances in 2013.
Stony Brook (26-6) will make its first NCAA Division I tournament appearance after winning its first America East title on Saturday. The Seawolves, whose 26 wins are a Division I program record, are the No. 13 seed in the East Region and will play No. 4 Kentucky in the first round Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa at approximately 9:40 p.m. ET on CBS.
Albany (24-8) is making its fifth-straight postseason appearance after posting its most regular-season victories in its Division I history. The Great Danes will play in the College Basketball Inivitational for the first time and travel to Ohio and face the Bobcats in the first round Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Vermont (21-13) is also appearing in the CBI for the fourth time. The Catamounts, who reached the America East title game for the ninth time since 2003 before falling to Stony Brook, are in the postseason for the eighth-straight year and the 13th time in 14 seasons. A year after getting all the way to the CBI semifinals, UVM will host Western Carolina in the first round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. That game can be seen on AmericaEast.TV.
New Hampshire (19-12) will play in the College Insider Tournament for the second-straight year after equaling its program record for wins for the second consecutive season. The Wildcats, who had never made a postseason appearance prior to last season, will visit Fairfield in the first round of the CIT on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
All together, 67 America East teams have played in the postseason all-time and totaled 16 wins.
