BOSTON - The 2016 softball season is underway for five of America East's seven teams that sponsor the sport. Binghamton, UMBC, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook all picked up at least one win over the weekend.
Here are the first weekly award winners of 2016:
Player of the Week
Alexandra Pisciotta, Stony Brook - Sr., Catcher, New Hyde Park, N.Y.
- Went 8-for-15 (.533) in five games last week.
- Slugged .867, belting two doubles and a home run.
- Had at least one hit in all five games she played.
- Scored a pair of runs and drove in a pair.
Pitcher of the Week
Kaycee Talcik - Fr., Pitcher, Shelton, Conn.
- Fired a complete game shutout in her lone apperance last week.
- Allowed just one hit and walked no one in earning the win vs. Manhattan.
Rookie of the Week
Morgan Peyou, UMBC - Fr., Outfielder, Mercer Island, Wash.
- Has hit.455 over her first eight games as a collegian.
- Collected a .500 on-base percentage.
- Scored eight runs and stolen four bases.
