BOSTON - Hartford, Stony Brook and Vermont all picked up their first wins of 2016 as the men's lacrosse season got underway for several America East teams. The Seawolves and Catamounts both went 2-0 while the Hawks beat Boston University in their season opener.
Here are the first weekly award winners of 2016:
Offensive Player of the Week
Ian Mackay, Vermont - Jr., Midfielder, Port Elgin, Ontario
- Totaled 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists in Vermont's first three games.
- Scored four times and added a pair of assists in a win over Holy Cross Saturday.
- Tallied two goals and three helpers in a win over NJIT Tuesday.
- Had four scored and two assists at Jacksonville in UVM's season opener.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jon Kaplan, Vermont - Jr., Goalkeeper, Glastonbury, Conn.
- Picked up the win in both of Vermont's victories last week.
- Stopped 24 of the 32 shots he faced for a .750 save percentage.
- Recorded a 5.08 GAA.
- Stopped all seven shots he faced in 34:26 of action vs. NJIT.
- Made 17 saves and allowed just eight goals in a 14-8 win over Holy Cross.
Rookie of the Week
Dawes Milchling, Vermont - Fr., Attacker, Cockeysville, Md.
- Had 13 points on eight goals and five assists in Vermont's first three games.
- Scored twice and added three assists in the win over NJIT.
- Tallied three goals and an assist twice, at Jacksonville and in the win at Holy Cross.
