SOMERS, Wisc. - By virtue of her dominating performance at the America East Swimming & Diving Championship over the weekend, UMBC's Emily Escobedo was named College Swimming National Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday. The junior broke three individual meet records and contributed to a new standard in a relay en route to being named Most Outstanding Swimmer of the meet for the third-straight year.
Escobedo won and set records in the 200 IM and 100 and 200 breastroke events. In the 200 breast, she shattered the school and conference record with a time of 2:06.21 winning by over 12 seconds. That time is not only good for an NCAA "A" cut, the first in school history, but it is also the fastest time in the NCAA this year. She also swam a leg of the 200 medley relay, which UMBC won and set a meet record.
Her performance led UMBC to its second-straight America East title.
