3 Wildcats, Seawolf Earn Last #AETF Weekly Awards

BOSTON –With the 2016 Championships quickly approaching this weekend, check out the conference's last weekly award winners for the 2016 Indoor Track and Field season.

Men's Track Performer of the Week

Drew Piazza, New Hampshire - Jr., Danvers, Mass.

  • Placed first overall in the 1,000-meter race at the David Hemery Invitational (2:21.97).
  • He holds the second fastest time in the event against all college runners on the way to setting a new school record.

Women's Track Performer of the Week

Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire - So., Montgomery, V.T.

  • Placed fourth overall in the mile at the David Hemery Invitational (4:29.71) setting a new school record.
  • She holds the fastest collegiate time in the event in the country.

Men's Field Performer of the Week

Michael Shanahan, New Hampshire - Jr., Dover, N.H.

  • Placed second overall in the weight throw at the David Hemery Invitational (67 feet, 0.50 inches).

Women's Field Performer of the Week

Kaylyn Gordon, Stony Brook - So., Spring Valley, N.Y.

  • She broke the school record in the triple jump (40-10.25/12.45m)
  • Her jump is tied for second in America East.

 

Notes:

  • Stony Brook’s Kaylyn Gordon record-breaking triple jump surpassed Sarah Lenchner's 26-year-old mark of 12.21m.
  • Stony Brook’s Christina Melian set the school record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:48.77. She broke Holly Van Dalen's six-year-old mark by nearly seven seconds as she won the event at the Valentine Invitational. Her time is best in America East by 28.35 seconds and ranks No. 13 in the nation.
