Four America East basketball standout student-athletes were named Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. University of Maine’s Sigi Koizar and Liz Wood and Stony Brook’s Elizabeth Snow were District I selections on the women’s side while Albany’s Peter Hooley was a District I choice for the men.
Snow, a psychology major with a 3.67 cumulative GPA, leads Stony Brook in scoring at 15.1 points per game and is second in rebounding at 6.7 per game. A third team all-conference selection as a junior and member of the America East All-Academic team, Snow has reached the 1,000 career point mark on Dec. 14 and is currently 11th on the school’s all-time scoring list.
Wood, the 2015-16 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Conference First-Team honoree, is averaging 9.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game for the second-place Black Bears. Also a nominee for the Senior CLASS Award, Wood was the America East National SAAC representative and is a two-time All-Academic selection. She has a 3.95 GPA as a biology/pre-med major.
Koizar, a native of Vienna, Austria, owns a 3.96 GPA in biology. The junior is third in the conference and first on the Black Bears in scoring at 17.2 points per game. She is also the best 3-point shooter in the conference, leading the league with 66 made 3-point field goals while also ranking first in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.7 percent.
Hooley, a three-time CoSIDA honoree, has a 3.54 GPA in Albany’s masters of communications program after earning his undergraduate degree in May with a dual major of journalism and psychology. A two-time America East All-Conference and All-Academic selection, Hooley ranks 10th among league leaders averaging 13.0 points per game. He has twice been named the Most Outstanding Player of the America East Championship while helping the Great Danes win three consecutive conference titles.
A three-time America East Champion and two-time league tournament Most Outstanding Performer, Hooley graduated with a dual degree in journalism and psychology last season. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Communications in his fifth year.
All four honorees are now eligible for Academic All-America recognition, which will be announced on Thursday, March 1.
