UAlbany Sweeps First #AETF Awards of Season

BOSTON – The 2016-2017 indoor track and field season kicked off last weekend with several intra-conference meets. Maine and New Hampshire split their dual meet, with Maine men and New Hampshire women taking home victories. Vermont picked up victories in both men’s and women’s meets against Hartford. 

Here are the first weekly award winners of the season:

 

Male Track Performer of the Week

Lamine Gueye, UAlbany – Fr., Sprinter, Albany, N.Y.

  • Tied a freshman record in 60m with a time of 6.87
  • His score ranked 20th nationally
  • Placed second in Boston University Season Opener in 300m

 

Male Field Performer of the Week

Eric DelVescovo, UAlbany -  Sr., Thrower, Ridgefield Park, NJ

  • Broke a 26 year-old school record in Shot Put with 16.10m throw
  • Record was set by Matthew Kiely in 1990
  • DelVescovo’s throw was the 36th best throw nationally this season

 

Female Track Performer of the Week

Grace Claxton, UAlbany – Sr., Sprinter, San Juan Puerto Rico

  • Her time of 37.93 in the 300m broke the school record, facility record and Puerto Rico national record

 

Female Field Performer of the Week

Chinwe Igwe, UAlbany – Sr., Thrower, West Orange, N.J.

  • Won the weight throw with a mark of 61-5.75
  • Her score was tenth-best in the nation
