BOSTON – The opening week in the 2016-2017 indoor track and field season was followed by a more subtle one as a number of America East squads did not compete. Hartford, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, however, were all in action. Vermont women finished first at the Jay Carisella Invitational with the men’s squad finishing second. New Hampshire men’s and women’s teams both finished second at Dartmouth.
Here are this week’s award winners:
Male Track Performer of the Week
William Ulrich, New Hampshire - So., Mile, Mineola, N.Y.
- Ulrich won the mile in a time of 4:18.07
- It is the 28th fastest mile time in the country this season
- He also ran a leg of UNH's winning 4X800 relay
Male Field Performer of the Week
Ian Weider, Vermont – Sr., Long Jump, Thetford Center, Vt.
- Won the long jump with a mark of 7.23m 23-08.75
- It is the 21st-best long jump mark in the nation this season
Female Track Performer of the Week
Alex Giese, New Hampshire - Sr., 3000m, Franklin, Mass.
- Giese won the 3000 meter in a time of 10:09.87
- Her time ranks 25th nationally
- Led a 1-6 UNH sweep in the event
Female Field Performer of the Week
Jeannette Mara, New Hampshire - Sr., High jump, Bedford, N.H.
- Mara won the high jump with a jump of 5-foot, 7 inches
- Led a 1-2-3-4 UNH sweep in the event
- She, along with two of her teammates, rank 21st nationally in the high jump
