College basketball season begins Friday November 11th! Be sure to check out
our daily previews of all nine America East schools. Here are some key notes on UMBC men's basketball:
  • The Retrievers were selected sixth in the league’s preseason poll as it begins its first season under new head coach, Ryan Odom.

  • Odom comes to UMBC after one season as head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University and stops as an assistant coach at Charlotte, Virginia Tech, American, UNC Asheville and Furman.

  • UMBC returns 12 players from last year’s team, including second-team All-Conference selection, Jairus Lyles, who averaged a league-best 23.0 points per game last season.

  • Rodney Elliott (12.8 ppg), an All-Conference selection three years ago, Will Darley (11.9 ppg) and Joe Sherburne (10.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg), an All-Rookie choice last year, will also be key pieces for the Retrievers.
  • The Retrievers start their season Nov. 11 vs. Hood College and will have 14 home games for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign this season.
