our daily previews of all nine America East schools. Here are some key notes on UMBC men's basketball:

The Retrievers were selected sixth in the league’s preseason poll as it begins its first season under new head coach, Ryan Odom.

Odom comes to UMBC after one season as head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University and stops as an assistant coach at Charlotte, Virginia Tech, American, UNC Asheville and Furman.

UMBC returns 12 players from last year’s team, including second-team All-Conference selection, Jairus Lyles, who averaged a league-best 23.0 points per game last season.
- Rodney Elliott (12.8 ppg), an All-Conference selection three years ago, Will Darley (11.9 ppg) and Joe Sherburne (10.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg), an All-Rookie choice last year, will also be key pieces for the Retrievers.
- The Retrievers start their season Nov. 11 vs. Hood College and will have 14 home games for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign this season.
