College basketball season begins Friday November 11th! Be sure to check out
our daily previews of all nine America East schools. Here are some key notes on
Maine women's basketball:
- The Black Bears were picked third in the preseason poll after making a trip to the America East title game last season. Maine has won back-to-back America East co-regular season titles.
- Maine returns arguably the best player in the league in senior guard Sigi Koizar who is a two-time All-Conference First Team selection and was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Koizar was third in the league in scoring at 17.7 points per game while also ranking as one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation, making 43.4% from downtown.
- It's a new look for the Black Bears as 10 of Maine's 14 players have not played for the team prior to this season including eight freshmen and two redshirts.
- Maine, which has put together back-to-back 20+ win seasons, is coming off a 26 win season, falling just one game short of matching the school-record for victories in a season. The Black Bears have competed in the WNIT each of the past two seasons.
- Transfer Tanesha Sutton is expected to make an immediate impact on the league. The Duquesne transfer saw action in 26 games as a freshman before transferring to Orono.
