Off to 4-0 Start, UMBC Sweeps #AEHoops Weekly Honors

BOSTON - Seven of America East's nine men's basketball programs won games last week, including UMBC, which won twice to improve to 4-0 for the first time in 16 seasons. Here are the week #2 America East weekly award winners:

Player of the Week
Jairus Lyles, UMBC - Jr., Guard, Silver Spring, Md.

  • Averaged 26.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a pair of wins for UMBC last week.
  • Shot 60.6 percent from the floor on 20-of-33 shooting. 
  • Scored 24 points and added nine rebounds in a win over Delaware State Wednesday.
  • Had 29 points and five rebounds in a win over Kennesaw State Saturday.
  • This is his second career Player of the Week honor (2/7/16).

Rookie of the Week
Arkel Lamar, UMBC - Fr., Forward, Bridgeport, Conn.

  • Contributed 8.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals in a pair of wins for the Retrievers.
  • Had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals in UMBC's win over Kennesaw State Saturday.
