BOSTON - For the fourth-straight year, the University of New Hampshire will host the America East volleyball championship as the top-seed. The full bracket was announced following the conclusion of the regular-season on Sunday.
The 2016 America East Volleyball Championship will be held Nov. 18-19 at the University of New Hampshire’s Lundholm Gymnasium. No. 2 Albany will face No. 3 UMBC at 4 PM followed by No. 1 New Hampshire vs. No. 4 Binghamton at 7 PM on Friday. The semifinals winners will battle in the final on Saturday, November 19 at 4 PM.
The Wildcats wrapped-up the top seed on Friday after sweeping Albany and then earned the outright regular-season title with a victory over Binghamton on Sunday. UNH joins Albany as the only programs in league history to win four-straight regular-season titles. Joining New Hampshire in the championship field are No. 2 Albany, No. 3 UMBC and No. 4 Binghamton.
Albany, which has appeared in the tournament final in ten of the last 12 seasons, earned the No. 2 seed with a 9-3 overall record. The Great Danes have qualified for 15-straight tournaments.
UMBC earned the No. 3 seed after missing the tournament for the first time since 2007 last year. The Retrievers have reached the tournament in eight of the last nine seasons.
Binghamton finished with the No. 4 seed with a 7-5 record after falling to New Hampshire on the final day of the season. The Bearcats won five of their last seven America East contests.
