UMBC's Escobedo, Vermont's Soucy Earn 1st #AE Awards of 16-17 Season

BOSTON - Three of America East's five women's swimming & diving programs kicked off their 2016-17 seasons over the weekend, including reigning champion UMBC. Here are the week one award winners:

Swimmer of the Week
Emily Escobedo, UMBC - Sr., New Rochelle, N.Y.

  • Took first in three events in leading UMBC to wins over Navy and George Mason Saturday.
  • Won the 100m breaststroke (1:02.23) and 200m breaststroke (2:13.49), surpassing the NCAA B-cut qualifying standard in both events.
  • Also won the 200 IM in a time of 2:01.80.

Diver of the Week
Madison Soucy, Vermont - Jr., West Hartford, Conn.

  • Won the 1-meter dive and placed second in the 3 meter to lead Vermont to a win over Binghamton Saturday.
  • Earned 201.65 points to win the 1-meter competition and 185.45 in the 3 meter to finish second.
