Richards, Carmody Take Home Women's #AEHoops Weekly Awards

BOSTON - Albany and Stony Brook remain unbeaten in the America East women's basketball through two weeks of league action. The Seawolves are the hottest team in the conference with eight-straight wins heading into Monday. Albany beat Maine on ESPN3 in the premiere matchup of the weekend between the co-regular season champions from a year ago. America East teams get ready for a three-game week that includes a full slate of games on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Here are the week ten award winners:

Player of the Week
Shereesha Richards, Albany, Sr., F, Rae Town, Jamaica

  • Earns her 20th career Player of the Week honor.
  • Averaged a conference-high 30.0 points per game to go with 9.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Great Danes.
  • Shot 63.2% from the floor (24-of-38).
  • Scored 26 points on 11-15 shooting and grabbed ten rebounds in 26 minutes in a win over New Hampshire.
  • Posted 34 points on 13-23 shooting while adding nine rebounds and four steals in a win over Maine.

Rookie of the Week
Rebecca Carmody, Binghamton, Fr., G, Waymart, Pa.

  • Earns her second career Rookie of the Week honor.
  • Registered 15 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five steals in a win over Hartford.
  • Scored nine of her points in the fourth period as the Bearcats rallied for victory.

Notes

  • Three America East teams are featured in the Mid-Major Top-25 released on Jan. 12, including Albany (15), Maine (RV) and Stony Brook (RV).
  • According to the latest College Basketball RPI report released on Jan. 11, the America East is 16th among Division I conferences, the highest for the conference since reaching #15 on Feb. 20, 2012.
  • Stony Brook is off to a 4-0 start in America East play for the first time in program history.
  • The top-four scorers in the America East will all be on the floor when Albany takes on Binghamton in the Great Danes’ Shereesha Richards (24.6) and Imani Tate (17.9), and the Bearcats’ Alyssa James (16.9) and Imani Watkins (16.8).
  • Albany is shooting 49.0% from the floor this year, the sixth-best percentage in the country. No other America East team shoots over 44%.
  • UMBC matched its season-best by forcing 34 turnovers in a win over UMass Lowell. The Retrievers have forced 20+ turnovers nine times this year.
  • Hartford has won 20 of the last 21 meetings vs. Stony Brook as the two teams meet on Long Island on Monday.
  • Albany senior Shereesha Richards became just the 9th player in America East women’s basketball history and the first since 2000 to score 2,000 career points.
  • The America East is the only non-Power 5 Conference with five teams in the top-90 of scoring defense (Maine-13, Albany-33, Stony Brook-74, Binghamton-82, UMBC-83).
  • The Great Danes are 63-5 in league play since 2011-12.
  • Binghamton earned its first road win of the season after beating Hartford 53-47. Imani Watkins led the Bearcats with 19 points.
  • Maine has won 13-straight games at the Cross Inurance Center.
