BOSTON - America East field hockey teams continued to win games last weekend, improving to 21-14 on the season for a .667 winning percentage. Stanford and Albany remained ranked in the top 10.
Here are the second weekly award winners of the season:
Player of the Week
Sydey Earle, Cal - Jr., Forward, San Diego
- Tallied a league-high six points last week in three games.
- Racked up four points on a goal and two assists in Cal's 7-1 win over Saint Louis Saturday.
- Scored the game winner in the Bears' 2-1 win over Indiana on Monday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jessica Chisholm, Stanford - Sr., Defender, Tauranga, New Zealand
- Led Stanford to a pair of 1-0 wins over Indiana and Miami (Ohio) last week.
- Helped the Cardinal limit the Red Hawks to just five shots and only three penalty corners.
- Spearheaded the defensive effort againt Indiana, holding the Hoosiers to just three second-half shots.
Rookie of the Week
Melina Moore, Cal - Fr., Forward, Los Gratos, Calif.
- Tallied a pair of goals in three games.
- Scored both goals in Cal's 7-1 win over Saint Louis on Saturday, including the game winner.
Notes
- America East teams went a combined 21-14 on the young season.
- Stanford posted wins over Indiana and Miami (Ohio) and rose to #5 in the country, up one spot from its preseason ranking.
- Albany, which was idle last week, remained at #7.
- America East and the ACC are the only leagues with multiple teams ranked in the nation's top seven.
- Cal posted wins over Saint Louis and Indiana to improve to 3-2 on the season.
- UMass Lowell won two more games to improve to 4-0, its best start at the Division I level and best since its undefeated 2010 season.
