UNH, Albany, Stony Brook Featured in #AEVB Week 2 Honors

BOSTON - The New Hampshire Wildcats are on a roll, winning five-straight matches including going unbeaten at the Fairfield Invitational to highlight the second week of America East volleyball. The last time UNH posted three wins in a tournament dates back to Aug. 24-25, 2007 at the Colgate Classic. Albany also had a great week, tying for first at the Golden Flashes Classic with wins over Indiana State and Oakland. Here are the week two award winners:

Player of the Week
Tori Forrest, New Hampshire, Sr., Outside Hitter, Powder Springs, Ga.

  • Had double-doubles in all four of New Hampshire’s matches last week, helping the Wildcats to a 4-0 record.
  • Was one of only two players in the conference to average more than three kills and three digs per set for the week.
  • Ranked fourth in the conference with 3.31 kills per set and tied for seventh with 3.00 digs per set.
  • Led the conference with 176 total attacks and finished with a .199 hitting percentage.

Rookie of the Week
McKyla Brooks, Stony Brook, Fr., Middle Hitter, Buffalo, N.Y.

  • Led all freshmen and ranked fourth in the conference with a .354 hitting percentage last week while averaged 3.06 kills/set and 0.62 blocks/set.
  • Hit .522 with 15 kills in a four-set win over Holy Cross
  • Had five kills in the deciding fourth set of the win over Holy Cross, including one to fight off set point and prolong the frame to a 30-28 Seawolves win

Setter of the Week
Mikala McCauley, Albany, Jr. S, Stanfordville, N.Y.

  • Led the conference, averaging 10.42 assists/set while helping Albany lead the league as a team last week with a .243 hitting percentage.
  • Also averaged 2.67 digs/set.
  • New season highs in assists, digs and kills during the weekend.
  • Member of the Golden Flashes Classic All-Tournament Team.

Defensive Specialist of the Week
Madison Lightfoot, Sr., Defensive Specialist, Clarkson, Mich. 

  • Ranked third in the conference with 4.12 digs/set for the week.
  • Helped UNH lead the league, holding opponents to a .140 hitting percentage in a 4-0 week.
  • Had 15 or more digs in each of the four matches for the Wildcats last week.

  • The last time UNH posted three wins in a tournament dates back to Aug. 24-25, 2007 at the Colgate Classic.
  • Albany's Laini Leindecker averaged 3.67 kills/set and 3.33 digs/set for the week.
  • Binghamton's Alexis LaGoy had a .700 hitting percentage vs. Central Michigan with 14 kills and 20 swings.
  • Albany's .365 hitting percentage vs. Oakland is the highest for any America East team this season.
