BOSTON - America East's men's soccer teams continued to excel last week, going 10-3-2 in non-conference action. League play gets underway this week with four conference contests on Saturday.

Here are the week five award winners:

Player of the Week
Darius Madison, UMBC - Sr., Forward, Philadelphia, Pa.

  • Tallied five points on two goals and an assist in a pair of UMBC wins last week.
  • Recorded his third career multi-goal game and first as a Retriever, scoring twice, including the game winner, in a 3-2 comeback win over George Washington Tuesday.
  • Set up a score in UMBC's 2-0 win over George Mason Saturday.
  • This is Madison's second Player of the Week honor of the season. He also earned the honor Sept. 8.

Rookie of the Week
Patrick Jean-Giles, UMBC - Fr., Midfielder, Woodbridge, Va.

  • Scored his first collegiate goal in UMBC's 2-0 win over George Mason Saturday.
  • His score in the 10th minute proved to be the game winner.

Notes

  • America East teams went 10-3-2 last week to improve to 37-22-9 on the season, a .610 winning percentage.
  • Seven of those wins have come over teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago (Binghamton and UMBC over Ohio State, UMBC over Oakland, Hartford and UMass Lowell over Monmouth, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire over Hartwick).
  • New Hampshire continued to stay unbeaten with a win over Northeastern and a tie at #21 Columbia.
  • At 6-0-2, the Wildcats' .875 win percentage ranks among the best in the country.
  • Hartford, UMBC and Vermont each won a pair of games last week.
  • The Hawks posted 2-1 wins over Central Conn. State and St. Francis (Pa.) and have won three in a row.
  • Kennedy O'Shea and Darius Madison combined for 11 points in UMBC's wins over George Washington and George Mason.
  • Brian Wright tallied four points in Vermont's wins over UMass and Bryant.
  • The Catamounts have won four straight and are unbeaten in their last five games.
  • Albany (over Lafayette), UMass Lowell (over Bryant) and Stony Brook (over Fairleigh Dickinson) also picked up wins.
  • UMBC's Darius Madison and Vermont's Brian Wright are tied for the league lead with 12 points.
  • Conference play kicks off Saturday with four games: Binghamton at Vermont (1 p.m.), New Hampshire at UMass Lowell (3 p.m.), Albany at Stony Brook (1 p.m.), UMBC at Hartford (7 p.m.).
