BOSTON - Through two weeks of play in America East women's soccer, the Maine Black Bears are the talk of the conference, starting the season with three-straight shutouts and a perfect 3-0-0 record. UMBC and New Hampshire also got in the win column last week.
Here are the week two award winners:
Player of the Week
Brooke Murphy, New Hampshire, So., F, Monson, Mass.
- Scored both goals in New Hampshire's 2-0 win over Holy Cross.
- The two goals came on three shots as she put all three on net.
- Generated multiple scoring chances for the Wildcats in a loss vs. Siena, leading the game with six shots including four on net.
Rookie of the Week
Anetra Byfield, Maine, Fr., F, Ontario, Canada
- Scored her first career collegiate goal in a 2-0 win over Rhode Island in Maine's lone game this week.
- Led the team with five shots in the contest, putting four one net.
- Helped the Black Bears to a perfect 3-0-0 start to the season.
Notes
- Maine has not allowed a goal yet this season.
- UMBC's Gabby Boehmer has scored in each of the first four games of the season for the Retrievers.
- UMass Lowell's Rachel Morrier converted a pair of penalty kicks for the River Hawks this week. The first game UML a 3-2 lead vs. URI before the team fell 4-3. The second goal was the team's lone tally in a loss to Northeastern.
