Former University of Hartford standout Sean Newcomb has been selected to be a participant in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game. The 2014 first round pick of the Los Angeles Angels will represent team USA during the All-Star week contest. Newcomb joins 22 other top MLB prospects on the U.S. roster, who will be taking on the World Team.
Newcomb is currently at High A Inland Empire, where he holds a 3.32 ERA in 38 innings pitched. He has struck out 50 batters, an average of 11.8 K’s per nine innings pitched.
While at Hartford, the left-handed ace had a career earned run average of 2.73, ranking second lowest all-time in the Hawks program. In 2014 he was named the Pitcher of the Year in the America East, and was voted onto the All-Conference first team for the second time.
Newcomb also holds the America East record for strikeouts in a conference season with 78, set in 2014, and was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week seven times throughout his career.
The 2015 Futures game will be played on Sunday, July 12th, at 3 P.M. ET at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball park.
