EUGENE, Ore. – Over the course of the two final days of the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship, two America East competitors garnered First-Team All-America honors. On Friday, Binghamton’s Jesse Garn placed fourth overall in the men’s 800-meter championship race, and on Saturday, New Hampshire’s Elinor Purrier crossed the finished line in seventh place in the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase
In addition, UNH’s Laura Rose Donegan finished tenth in the 3,000m steeplechase to earn Second-Team All-American honors.
Garn clocked in a time of 1:49.74, becoming just the second Binghamton Division I student-athlete to be named an All-America twice during his or her career. The senior middle-distance runner was named an honorable All-American at the 2014/2015 indoor track & field championship.
New Hampshire’s redshirt-freshman Purrier clocked in at 9:53.69, claiming her second All-America honor in her young career. In the 2014 indoor season, she was named to the All-America Second Team in the mile race. She was also the national champion at the U.S. Junior Championships and placed ninth in the World Junior Championships.
Donegan registered just inside the top ten with a time of 9:58.95, a new personal best for the redshirt sophomore.
This was the first time in program history that two competitors reached the finals for the NCAAs, and no woman had received First-Team All-American America honors since 1993.
Overall, the America East wrapped up the Outdoor Track & Field Championship with six competitors travelling to Eugene, Oregon. Along with the conference's two All-American First Team honorees and one All-America Second Team honoree, UMBC's Vincent Rentszch, Binghamton's Keishorea Armstrong, and New Hampshire's John Prizzi earned honorable All-American honors.
