Five America East baseball student-athletes were selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday, increasing the conference's total number of selections over the last five years to 30. The draft was conducted June 8-10.
A year after Hartford's Sean Newcomb was the 15th overall pick, UMass Lowell's Danny Mendick was the first America East player selected, going in the 22nd round (652nd overall) to the Chicago White Sox. Mendick was the conference's first-team shortstop this past season.
Three-time first-team all-league outfielder Jake Thomas from Binghamton was the next to go, getting selected in the 27th round (812th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Stony Brook hurler Ryley MacEachern was picked in the 33rd round (986th overall) by Florida while Hartford's Trey Stover got taken in the 35th round (1,059th overall) by Kansas City. Stony Brook's Daniel Zamora, a first-team All-America East pitcher, rounded out the selections going in the 40th round (1,207th overall) to Pittsburgh.
