Albany Takes On Notre Dame in NCAA MLAX Quarterfinals Saturday

DENVER – For the second straight year, Albany will face Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the NCAA quarterfinals. The two team square off at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver on Saturday, May 16 at 3 p.m. EDT.

The game will broadcast nationally on ESPNU and online on WatchESPN. Mike Corey, Matt Ward and Ryan Boyle will have the call from Denver.

The winner will advance to the Final Four in Philadelphia next weekend, taking on the victor of Denver-Ohio State on Saturday, May 23. Albany s seeking its first ever semifinal berth and trying to become the second America East team to reach the Final Four (Towson, 2001),

The Great Danes are also trying to become the conference's third team this year to reach their respective Final Four, joining the Albany field hockey and UMBC men's soccer programs. .

Albany (16-2), the America East champion, defeated eighth-seeded Cornell in Ithaca on Saturday 19-10 to earn its second-consecutive trip to the quarterfinal round, standing at 16-2 overall and 6-0 in the America East. Top-seeded Notre Dame, the ACC regular season champion and an at large in the NCAA, won 12-10 over Towson in the first round.  The Fighting Irish are 11-2 overall and 4-0 in the ACC.

Saturday will feature a rematch from last year’s NCAA quarterfinals as Notre Dame won 14-13 in overtime over UAlbany in Hempstead, New York. Albany brings the top scoring offense in all of DI at 17.5 goals a game, almost three more a contest than the second-place team. Tewaaraton finalist Lyle Thompson has earned 51 goals and 65 assists on the year to lead all of DI in points and assists per game.

Notre Dame was the NCAA national runner-up to Duke in 2014.The Fighting Irish rank eighth in Division I and allows 9.15 goals per game, ranking 18th in DI.
