Stellar Pitching Highlights Baseball Weekly Awards

BOSTON - Stony Brook has won each of its first four conference series to stand in first place in the America East with a 6-2 record as we are a month into league action. Albany also earned an important series win, taking two of three from Hartford in a set that included two walk-offs. Binghamton had a walk-off win of its own in a sweep of a short two-game series vs. UMass Lowell. Here are the week eight award winners:

Player of the Week
Toby Handley, Stony Brook, So., OF, Whitby, Ontario

  • Was third in the conference in batting last week with a .545 averaged, going 6-for-11 in a two-game sweep at Maine.
  • Had mutliple hits in each of the two contests, including going 4-for-7 in the series opener with three runs scored and an RBI.
  • Went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a triple in the series finale.
  • Finished with a conference-best .909 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Cameron Stone, Stony Brook, So., RHP, West Haven, Conn.

  • Was lights out in one relief appearance last week against Maine, throwing three no-hit innings to pick-up the save in a 3-1 win over the Black Bears.
  • Walked just one as he faced just one batter over the minimum.
  • Recorded eight of the nine outs by way of the strikeout.

Co-Pitcher of the Week
Stephen Woods, Albany, So., RHP, Dix Hills, N.Y.

  • Threw his first career complete-game shutout in a 5-0 win over Hartford.
  • Scattered six hits while striking out a career-high eight in the outing.

Rookie of the Week
Teddy Rodliff, Stony Brook, Fr., LHP, Quincy, Mass.

  • Picked-up the win on the mound in an 8-5 13-inning win over Maine.
  • Coming into the game in the eighth inning, he allowed just one run on five hits over five innings.
  • Had two strikeouts and two walks while facing 22 batters.

Notes

  • Over the past two seasons, Stony Brook has lost just one conference series of 12 total. They have won 10 of those and split one. The Seawolves are 6-2 in the America East and have won all four conference series this year.
  • Five of the 22 conference games have been walk-offs. Five games have also been decided in extra innings and six have been won in a team's final at-bat.
  • Maine's Luke Morrill leads the conference and ranks 19th in the country with a .405 batting average.
  • UMBC's Conrad Wozniak is fifth in the country with a 0.90 ERA.
