Trio Leads Teams to Wins, Garner #AEMLAX Weekly Honors

BOSTON - With just one week remaining in the men's lacrosse regular season two teams have clinched spots in the America East championship field while three others are fighting for the final two spots. Albany and Stony Brook, two nationally ranked teams, are already in the field while Hartford, Vermont and Binghamton are vying for the final two spots. The championship will be played at Albany on April 30-May 2. Read about last week's games and the weekly award winners:

Co-Player of the Week
Blaze Riorden, Albany - Jr., Goalkeeper, Fairport, N.Y.

  • Had double-digit saves to two Albany wins last week.
  • Recorded a 9.50 GAA and .568 save percentage.
  • Tallied 14 saves in a 12-11 win over #7 Yale Saturday.
  • Ten of those stops came in the second half, including six in the fourth quarter and one with 15 seconds left to seal the win.
  • Made 11 stops in a 10-8 win over Bryant Tuesday.
  • This is Riorden's third honor of the season.

Co-Player of the Week
Mike Rooney, Stony Brook - Jr., Attack, East Islip, N.Y.

  • Tallied five goals and nine assists in two games last week.
  • Led Stony Brook to a comeback win over Binghamton by tallying two goals and seven assists.
  • Has seven of those points in the second half and overtime to help the Seawolves overcome a 10-4 deficit.
  • Set up Brody Eastwood's game-winning score in overtime.
  • Had three goals and two assists in a loss to sixth-ranked Duke Tuesday.
  • This is Rooney's fourth honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Connor Fields, Albany - Fr., Attack, Buffalo, N.Y.
  • Tallied three points in each of Albany's wins last week.
  • Had two goals and an assist in a 10-8 win over Bryant Tuesday.
  • Scored three times in Saturday's 12-11 victory over #7 Yale.
  • This is his fourth award of the season.
Notes
  • Albany will be the No. 1 seed for the America East Championship and will host the tournament with semifinal action taking place on April 30 and the championship game on May 1.
  • Albany moved up one spot in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to #7 after posting wins over Bryant and #7 Yale last week.
  • The Great Danes have won 19 straight games against America East foes.
  • Stony Brook clinched a spot in the America East tournament field for the 14th straight year with a 14-13 overtime win over Binghamton Saturday.
  • The Seawolves overcame a 10-4 second-half deficit to beat the Bearcats.
  • Vermont got give points from Ian MacKay to beat Hartford, 14-11 and improve to 3-2 in conference play.
  • The Catamounts' three America East wins match their most in the league history. They last won three conference tilts in 1997.
  • Hartford and Vermont are currently tied for third place in the conference standings.
  • Binghamton hosts Vermont next week and is fighting with the Catamounts and Hawks for the final two playoff spots.
  • Lyle Thompson passed Cornell's Rob Pannell as the NCAA's all-time Division I leading scorer Tuesday.
  • Lyle Thompson's 6.5 points per game are the most in the country while Stony Brook's Mike Rooney is third (6.1 ppg).
  • Rooney became Stony Brook's all-time points leader passing Kevin Crowley Saturday.
  • Brody Eastwood ranks second averaging 3.9 goals per game.
  • Albany leads the country averaging 17.6 goals per game.
  • This week, Albany hosts UMBC, Stony Brook visits Hartford and Binghamton entertains Vermont.
