BOSTON - Albany, UMass Lowell and Maine all earned important conference series wins over the weekend, while Stony Brook continued its strong play by winning a non-conference series at Georgetown. The Seawolves remain in first in the standings after a bye week while Albany sits in second. Hartford, UMass Lowell, Binghamton and UMBC are also within percentage points for third place. Here are the week 10 award winners:
Player & Rookie of the Week
Shawn Blake, Albany, Fr., Stratford, Conn.
- Batted .444 in series win over Binghamton, totaling eight hits, six runs, five RBIs, and five doubles.
- Slugged .727 with a .474 on-base percentage over four games.
- Five of his eight hits went for doubles.
- Led the charge in UAlbany’s comeback win over the Bearcats, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs scored, and two doubles.
- After trailing 8-0, Blake tied the game in the eighth inning with his bases loaded double. In the 10th, Blake was intentionally walked, setting up the game-winning hits for an 11-9 series-opening victory.
- Went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and scored three runs in UAlbany’s 9-6 rubber match win.
- Blake gave the Danes the lead for good with an RBI single in the four-run ninth-inning rally.
- Also had a perfect fielding percentage at first base with 31 putouts and one assist.
Pitcher of the Week
Kevin Veilleux, UMass Lowell, Jr., Manchester, N.H.
- Threw a complete-game shutout in game two of the series for the River Hawks, leading UMass Lowell to a 1-0 victory over UMBC.
- Scattered five hits while striking out two in the outing.
Notes
- Over the past two seasons, Stony Brook has lost just one conference series of 13 total. They have won 11 of those and split one. The Seawolves are 9-2 in the America East and have won all five conference series this year.
- Eight of the 40 conference games have been walk-offs. 11 games have also been decided in extra innings and nine have been won in a team's final at-bat.
- Maine's Luke Morrill leads the conference and ranks 17th in the country with a .405 batting average.
- UMBC's Conrad Wozniak is fourth in the country with a 0.90 ERA.
