#AETourney Quarterfinals Take Place Saturday

Vestal, N.Y. – The 2015 #AETourney has finally arrived.  The games are slated to begin Saturday afternoon at Binghamton University’s Events Center.

The four games will be split into two sessions, the first beginning at noon when No. 1 Maine will play the host school, No. 8 Binghamton.  Thirty minutes after the conclusion of that game, No. 4 New Hampshire will take to the court against No. 5 Hartford.

The second session begins at 6:00 P.M. with the three-time defending America East Champions, the No. 2 seeded Albany Great Danes going up against No. 7 Vermont. Half an hour after the conclusion of that contest, No. 3 Stony Brook will wrap up the quarterfinals playing No. 6 UMBC.

The four winners of the quarterfinal games will advance to Sunday’s semifinals.

Women’s Basketball Quarterfinals

#8 Binghamton vs. #1 Maine – 12:00 P.M.
Tournament Series: First Meeting

  • This is the first meeting between the Black Bears and Bearcats in the America East Championship.
  • Maine has won five-straight over the Bearcats in the all-times series.

#5 Hartford vs. #4 New Hampshire – Approx. 2:15 P.M.
Tournament Series: Hartford leads, 3-0

  • Hartford leads the all-time series in championship play, 3-0.
  • The last meeting came in the 2010 quarterfinals when the top-seeded Hawks beat the ninth-seeded Wildcats, 68-35.
  • No. 2 Hartford also beat No. 3 UNH in the 2005 semifinals, 52-38, on its way to its first America East title.
  • Prior to that, No. 4 Hartford beat No. 5 New Hampshire in the 1991 quarterfinals, 55-53. 
  • UNH has won five-straight in the overall series.

#7 Vermont vs. #2 Albany – 6:00 P.M.
Tournament Series: Tied 1-1

  • This is the third meeting between the Great Danes and the Catamounts and all three have come since 2010.
  • In 2010, No. 2 UVM topped No. 7 Albany, 61-36. The Catamounts went on to win the title, the last one for Vermont.
  • No. 2 Albany beat No. 7 Vermont, 74-61, in the 2012 quarterfinals. The Great Danes went on to win their first of three-straight titles.

#6 UMBC vs. #3 Stony Brook – Approx. 8:15 P.M.
Tournament Series: UMBC leads, 2-0

  • This is the third meeting between the two teams and all three will have come in the quarterfinals.
  • The last time they met, No. 1 UMBC beat No. 8 Stony Brook, 74-65. 
  • In 2007, No. 7 UMBC became the last No. 7 to beat a No. 2 seed, topping the Seawolves, 67-64. UMBC then went on to win the title to become the lowest seed in any America East sport to capture a championship. All of that happened in Binghamton.
  • No. 2 Albany beat No. 7 Vermont, 74-61, in the 2012 quarterfinals. The Great Danes went on to win their first of three-straight titles.
