BOSTON – Twelve student-athletes, representing four institutions, have been named to the 2015 America East Swimming & Diving All-Academic Team. These student-athletics have achieved academic and athletic excellence while representing and performing in the America East Conference this season.
This group of student-athletes comprises of two unanimous selections and eight repeat selections. Also included are seven All-Conference performers.
The two unanimous selections are Nicole Anderson of New Hampshire, and Naja Harvey of Maine. This is the third consecutive year that both Anderson and Harvey have been voted onto the team.
The remaining repeat honorees include Corinna Darelius of UMBC, Bettina Caspersen, Katie Mann and Nicole Zahka of New Hampshire, and Ilsa Feierabend along with Elena Melloni of Vermont.
The newly voted members of the All-Academic team include Kailey Dowd of Maine, Amanda Day and Emily Escobedo of UMBC, and Kathryn Violette of New Hampshire.
The seven All-Conference performers include the back-to-back America East Swimming & Diving Championship’s Most Outstanding Performer, Emily Escobedo. The UMBC Retriever won three individual events and set numerous records in the process. She then would go on to score at the NCAA Division I Championship.
Other All-Conference swimmers honored among this group of individuals are Anderson, Caspersen, Darelius, Feierabend, Harvey, and Mann.
Katie Mann, who also competed at the NCAA Division I Championship, was the recipient of the Elite 18 award at the conference championship.

The All-Academic team was selected using CoSIDA’s Academic All-America program as a model. Student-athletes worthy of consideration were nominated by member sports information directors and voted on by a committee of SIDs, academic advisors and faculty representatives from all nine-member institutions.
All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time or are typically made up of 10 student-athletes for individual sports, with the exception being in the event of ties. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
