BOSTON, Mass. - Weather wreaked havoc on the America East schedule over the weekend with just one conference game played between Maine and Hartford while Albany and UMass Lowell were unable to play their series due to snow and field condiitions. Weather also canceled non-conference games for Stony Brook and Binghamton. In the midst of the weather, UMBC was able to win three of its five non-conference games and Hartford is off to a 3-1 conference start following a 10-5 win over Maine. Here are the week six award winners:
Player of the Week
Andrew Casali, UMBC, So., OF, New Canaan, Conn.
- Hit. 381 (8-for-21) with five RBI in five games for UMBC last week as the Retrievers went 3-2.
- Had at-least one hit in each of the five games and a pair of multi-hit efforts including going three-for-five with two RBI and two runs scored in the first game of the series vs. the Citadel.
- Had an RBI in four of the five games.
Pitcher of the Week
Joey Moore, Albany, Sr., P, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
- Got Albany out of a bases loaded, one-out jam with a pair of strikeouts as the Great Danes held a 3-2 lead on Central Connecticut in the eighth inning.
- Finished with four strikeouts in 1.2 perfect innings to pick-up the save in a 3-2 win over Central Connecticut.
Rookie of the Week
Brady Zinda, UMBC, Fr., OF, Woodbridge, Va.
- Hit .417 in four games for the Retrievers, going 5-for-12.
- Scored five runs and drove in one on the week.
- Had two multi-hit games, going two-for-five with an RBI and two runs scored vs. NJIT and three-for-five with two runs scored vs. NJIT.
Notes
- Albany and UMass Lowell had their conference series cancelled while Hartford and Maine played one of their three games. The Hawks beat the Black Bears, 10-5, to go to 3-1 in conference play.
- UMBC went 3-2 in non-conference play last week with wins over NJIT, Towson and The Citadel.
- Three conference series are scheduled for this week with UMass Lowell at Stony Brook, Albany at Maine and Binghamton at UMBC.
- Hartford's Ryan Lukach belted his league-leading fourth home run of the year in the team's win over Maine.
- Maine's Scott Heath is tied for the league lead in innings pitched at 35.0 while also leading the conference with seven doubles.
