Warney Highlights 2014-15 Men's Basketball Award Winners Presented by Under Armour

BOSTON - For the just the sixth time in America East history, the Kevin Roberson Player of the Year is a repeat selection as Stony Brook’s Jameel Warney took home the award for the second-straight year. The conference’s 2014-15 major awards and all-conference teams presented by Under Armour were announced Monday via an awards show on AmericaEast.TV.

Warney also became just the third player to win Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season as being named Player of the Year. Joining him as major award winners was New Hampshire’s Tanner Leissner (Rookie of the Year) and Hartford’s Justin Graham and Vermont’s Cam Ward (Co-Sixth Men of the Year). Albany head coach Will Brown was tabbed Coach of the Year for the first first time.

Award winners were nominated by their own coaches and voted on by the conference’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.

Player & Defensive Player of the Year
Jameel Warney, Jr., Forward, Stony Brook
  • Sixth standout to be America East Player of the Year in consecutive seasons joining Reggie Lewis, Malik Rose, Taylor Coppenrath, Jamar Wilson and Marqus Blakely.
  • Joins former teammate Tommy Brenton and Vermont’s Marqus Blakely as only players to win both awards in the same season.
  • Leads the conference in scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (11.4 rpg).
  • Ranks fifth in the nation in rebounding.
  • His 7.3 defensive rebounds per game are the most in the conference.
  • Leads the league with 2.4 blocks per game.
  • Has 20 doubles-doubles this season, the most in the nation and is one of just 17 players in the country averaging a double-double.
  • Won a conference-record tying eight Player of the Week awards this season.

Rookie of the Year
Tanner Leissner, Fr., Forward, New Hampshire

  • Just the third Wildcat to be named Rookie of the Year and first since Pat Manor in 1990.
  • Led UNH to its most wins in 20 seasons.
  • Ranks sixth in the league in scoring (12.4 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (7.4 rpg).
  • Was a five-time America East Rookie of the Week.

Co-Sixth Men of the Year
Justin Graham,  So., Guard, Hartford

  • Averaged 6.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 while coming off the bench in 26 of his 29 appearances this season.
  • Led Hartford in scoring twice as a reserve.

Cam Ward,  Fr., Guard, Vermont

  • Averaged 6.3 points and 1.8 assists this season as a reserve in all but one game.
  • Ranks third among league leaders shooting 40.8 percent from three-point land and hit 45.7 percent of his attempts against conference foes.

Coach of the Year
Will Brown, Albany, 14th season

  • Named Coach of the Year for the first time.
  • Led Albany to its first America East regular-season title since the 2005-06 season.
  • The Great Danes went 15-1 in conference play and became the first team to start 12-0 since Vermont’s 2005 squad.
  • Albany has reached the 20-win mark for the fourth time under Brown.
  • Brown’s squad held conference opponents to just 56.1 points per game.

Evan Singletary, Jr., Albany – 12.7 ppg (7th in AE), 54 made 3-pointers (4th in AE)

Cody Joyce, Jr., UMBC - Averaged 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds in conference play
