GREENWOOD, IND. – For the second straight season, University at Albany men’s basketball shooting guard Peter Hooley was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday.

Hooley is just the second Great Dane all-time to garner the honor two seasons in a row. His former teammate Logan Aronhalt was named Academic All-District back-to-back in 2011-12 and 2010-11.

The junior led the team in scoring through 15 games (14.5 points per game) before taking an indefinite leave of absence to return to his native Australia. Hooley spent two weeks with his mother, who passed after a nearly five-year battle with cancer on Saturday, Jan. 31. He is set to return to the team in mid-February.

In the classroom, Hooley is a double major in journalism and psychology. After redshirting as a true freshman, Hooley boasts a cumulative GPA of 3.54 over four years. He was named the America East Men’s Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year one season ago.

The All-District team is selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, after student-athletes are nominated by their respective institutions. Student-athletes that receive All-District accolades are re-submitted for consideration for the Academic All-America team. This is the fifth consecutive year that a member of the UAlbany men’s basketball team has been selected to the All-District team. Previous honorees include Jacob Iati (2012-13) and Logan Aronhalt (2011-12 & 2010-11).
