BOSTON, Mass. - America East baseball teams earned some impressive wins over the weekend as most of the conference made trips down south for some warmer weather. Albany won its season-opener over the ACC's N.C. State and Stony Brook grabbed 1 of 3 from Louisiana-Lafayette, while Hartford had a pair of wins and UMass Lowell split a four-game series at Georgia State. Here are the week two award winners:

Player of the Week
Danny Mendick, UMass Lowell, Sr., SS, Rochester, N.Y.

  • Tied for the league-lead with a .462 batting average (6-for-13) as UMass Lowell split a four-game series at Georgia State.
  • Tied for the conference lead last week with six RBI, while also legging out three doubles.
  • Did not make an error on 15 chances, recording five putouts with 10 assists.
  • Had a pair of multi-hit games, going two-for-five in the series opener and then 3-for-4 to close the series with two RBI.
  • Drove in three runs in game two of the series.
  • Finished with a .526 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Gauthier, Hartford, Jr., P, Lynn, Mass.

  • Earned the win on the mound in Hartford's season-opener, a 12-1 victory over Iona.
  • Tossed seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
  • Struck out eight without issuing a walk.

Rookie of the Week
Teddy Rodliff, Stony Brook, Fr., P, Quincy, Mass.

  • Nailed down a three-inning save to help the Seawolves beat Louisiana-Lafayette, 4-1, in the second game of the series.
  • Allowed just one hit over three innings and issued one walk for his first career save.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns were the winningest team in the country in 2014.

Notes

  • Albany earned a win over the ACC's N.C. State, 9-6, to open its season.
  • Stony Brook topped Louisiana-Lafayette, the winningest team in the country in 2014, 4-1 in game two of the team's three-game series.
  • Hartford's 12-1 win over Iona was the first season opening victory under Blood and the first since 2010. The Hawks also started the 2010 season 2-1 in their first three games.
  • Hartford battles top-ranked Virginia while Stony Brook takes on No. 3 Florida among the America East games this weekend.
