BOSTON - Four America East men's lacrosse teams were in action over the weekend, including UMass Lowell, which made its debut as a men's lacrosse prgram. Read about weekly award winners and league notes below:

Player of the Week
Nate Lewnes, UMBC - Jr., Arnold, Md.
  • Tallied four goals in UMBC's narrow 10-8 loss at #13 Penn.
  • Scored twice in each of the first and fourth quarters.
  • Had 11 shots in the game.
Rookie of the Week
Cory Highfield, UMass Lowell - Fr., Georgetown, Ontario
  • Scored first two career goals in UMass Lowell's loss at Yale Saturday.
  • The scores were the first in River Hawk history.
Notes
  • Albany opens its season at Drexel Saturday and is ranked 13th in the USILA Coaches Poll and 10th in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
  • Reigning Co-Tewaaraton Award winner Lyle Thompson was named the national preseason Player of the Year by several publications.
  • Binghamton also opens this weekend after their opener was postponed Saturday.
  • UMBC nearly upset #13 Penn behind four goals from Nate Lewnes, but fell 10-8.
  • James Barlow scored four times, but Vermont lost to Colgate, 10-8, Saturday.
