BOSTON, Mass. - The women's lacrosse season got into full swing this week and four America East teams have played games. Vermont was the lone team to win its opener, besting Colgate, 12-11, in overtime to earn a pair of weekly awards. Also, UMass Lowell played its first game in program history over the weekend. Here are the week one award winners:
Player of the Week
Jessica Roach, Sr., A, Scituate, Mass.
- Tallied a game-high four goals to lead Vermont to a season-opening win, 12-11, over Colgate in OT.
- Converted both of her free-position attempts.
- Added two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control
Defensive Player of the Week
Meg Hopkins, Vermont, Sr., GK, Penn Yan, N.Y.
- Stopped seven shots while alllowed 11 goals in 66 minutes to pick-up the win at Colgate.
- Picked up a pair of ground balls.
- Earned her eighth career victory.
Rookie of the Week
Taylor Sokol, UMass Lowell, Fr., M, Hopkinton, Mass.
- Scored a pair of goals in UMass Lowell's first game as a program in a loss at Massachusetts.
- Recorded the program's first-ever goal
- Notched three draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover.

- Vermont won its season-opener, 12-11, at Colgate in overtime.
- UNH lost its season-opener at Hofstra despite an 11-9 edge in ground balls and committing just nine turnovers to Hofstra's 13.
