BOSTON - America East women's basketball teams continued a string of strong non-conference play last week as all nine teams won at-least one game. America East teams are four games ahead of least year's pace with a 35-36 overall non-conference record.
Here are the week four award winners:
Player of the Week
Shereesha Richards, Albany, Sr., F, Rae Town, Jamaica
- Averaged 28.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while shooting 57.1 % in a 1-1 week for the Great Danes.
- Posted 28 points, five rebounds and three steals in a win over Proivdence. Hit 9-of-16 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line in the game.
- Went 11-of-19 from the field while scoring 28 points in a road loss to Patriot League favorite Army.
- Tied Cindy Blodgett for most career Player of the Week awards with 16.
Rookie of the Week
Ogechi Anyagaligbo, Stony Brook, Fr., F, Miami, Fla.
- Averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 11.3 rebounds over three games for Stony Brook last week.
- Shot 58.6% from the floor for the week.
- Totaled nine points and a career-high 15 rebounds in a loss to St. Bonaventure.
- Had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Cornell while hitting 6-of-8 from the field.
- Posted 17 points and nine boards in a road loss at Syracuse.
Notes
- Five America East teams are featured in the Mid-Major Top-25 released on Dec. 1, including Albany (15), Maine (22), Stony Brook (RV), New Hampshire (RV) and Hartford (RV).
- The America East is No. 22 in the first release of the RPI. The conference was 27th on this date last year.
- Maine's Liz Wood, Stony Brook's Brittany Snow and UMBC's Emily Russo were nominated for the WBCA Allstate Good Works team. This distinguished award shines a spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have shown dedication to service in their communities.
- UMBC held La Salle to 29 points, the fewest points allowed by an America East team vs. a DI opponent since Boston U. held URI to 29 points on Nov. 27, 2012.
- UVM snapped a six-game skid with a 53-51 win over Sacred Heart. Hayley Robertson scored a game-high and tied a career-high with 15 points.
- UMBC forced 27 turnovers vs. La Salle. The Retrievers have forced 20 or more turnvoers in four of their last five games.
- Mikaela Gustaffson scored a career-high 18 points to help Maine to a 59-41 win over Dartmouth on Sunday.
- UNH set season-highs in blocks (7) and 3-pointers (7) in a 69-52 win over Boston U. on Saturday. The Wildcats never trailed in the contest.
- Elizabeth Belanger registered her fourth 20-point performance with a game-high 24 points in a win over Boston U. Saturday.
- Shereesha Richards poured in 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting for Albany in a loss to Army, the 20th-ranked mid-major team in the country. Richards moved into 13th all-time on the America East scoring list with 1,825 career points.
- UMass Lowell’s Lindsey Doucette had 19 points and 17 rebounds in a loss at FIU. The 17 boards were the most for an America East player since New Hampshire’s Carlie Pogue had 17 vs. Binghamton on Jan. 17, 2015.
- Darby Lee scored 10 of her 16 points in the fourth period as Hartford beat Central Connecticut State, 48-41. The Hawks held the Blue Devils to 7.7% shooting in the first period.
- Albany is receiving votes in the Coaches’ Poll. The last America East team to be ranked in either the coaches’ or AP poll was Hartford on March 1, 2010 at No. 24 in the AP poll. The Hawks were also ranked in the Coaches’ Poll that same season. Vermont is the only other program to earn a national ranking. The Catamounts were No. 24 in the AP poll in 2010 and also ranked in 1993.
