Thomas, Anyagaligbo Earn Women's #AEHoops Honors

BOSTON - Many America East women's basketball teams had the week off during the holiday break as just four games were played before Christmas. Stony Brook continued to impress with a win over LIU Brooklyn, while Vermont pushed Delaware on the road as both teams earned weekly honors. 

Here are the week seven award winners:

Player of the Week
Andreana Thomas, Vermont, Gr., G, West Haven, Conn.

  • Poured in a career-high 26 points at Delaware on Dec. 22.
  • Hit 4-of-6 from downtown and finished 9-of-18 from the field in the game.
  • Also added five assists and four rebounds.

Rookie of the Week
Ogechi Anyagaligbo, Stony Brook, Fr., F, Miami, Fla.

  • Named Rookie of the Week for the sixth-straight week, tying Boston U.’s Chantell Alford (2009-10) for the most consecutive weeks winning the honor in conference history.
  • Scored a career-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting in a win over LIU Brooklyn.
  • Also added 12 rebounds.

 

Notes

  • Three America East teams are featured in the Mid-Major Top-25 released on Dec. 22, including Albany (18), Maine (RV) and Stony Brook (RV).
  • According to the latest College Basketball RPI report, the America East is 20th among Division I conferences, four spots higher than it was on this date a year ago. Both Albany (38) and Maine (98) are in the top-100.
  • Albany is 8th in the country in field goal shooting percentage at 49.0%.
  • Maine (19) and UMBC (26) are both in the top-26 of the country in scoring defense. The Black Bears are allowing just 52.2 points per game while the Retrievers are holding opponents to 54.3 points per game.
  • Stony Brook won its third-straight game, beating LIU Brooklyn, 71-54. Ogechi Anyagaligbo scored a career-high 23 points to go with 12 rebounds. The Seawolves are 5-0 when holding opponents under 60 points this season.
  • UMBC won its sixth-straight game, beating Loyola, 52-46. The Retrievers now have eight non-conference wins, the most for the program since the 2008-09 season.
  • USC banked in a three-pointer in the final seconds to hand Albany a heartbreaking 68-67 road loss. Albany’s three losses have been by a combined 12 points.
  • Maine beat Clemson by 33 points on Friday, the largest margin of victory for an America East team over any Power 5 opponent in conference history.
  • For Maine, it is the first time in history that it tallied back-to-back 30+ point victories and the first time it has defeated two school’s from power conference in the same year since defeating Wake Forest and Rutgers in 1989.
  • Shereesha Richards scored 41 points for Albany vs. UC Davis, tied for the sixth-most in a single game in conference history. It was the most points for an America East player since Richards posted 41 vs. Vermont on Jan. 9, 2014.
