Warney, Davis Take Home Men's #AEHoops Weekly Awards

BOSTON - The top four teams in the league standings -Albany, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and Vermont- went a combined 6-0 last week to run their combined record to 27-18 on the season. The four teams, last year's America East semifinalist quartet, are a near-perfect 17-1 combined at home this season.

Stony Brook's Jameel Warney earned America East Player of the Week honors for the third time this season and Binghamton's Everson Davis picked up Rookie of the Week presented by Under Armour accolades.

Player of the Week 
Jameel Warney, Stony Brook - Sr., Forward, Plainfield, N.J.

  • Averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in two wins last week.
  • Shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the field.
  • Hit his first 10 shots in a 22-point performance at American Thursday.
  • Collected 22 points, nine rebounds and five blocks in a win over rival Hofstra Sunday.
  • This is Warney’s third Player of the Week honor of the season and 13th of his career, tying him with Vin Baker for the second most in league history.

Rookie of the Week presented by Under Armour
Everson Davis, Binghamton - Fr., Guard, St. Kitts

  • Scored 17 points, one shy of his career best, vs. St. Francis (Pa.) Tuesday.
  • Made 11-of-14 free throw attempts.
  • Added four rebounds and four assists.

Notes

  • Six of the conference’s nine programs (Albany, Binghamton, Maine, UMBC, Stony Brook, Vermont) have a better RPI than they did at this time last year. 
  • America East ranks 24th out of 32 Division I conferences in RPI, according to the Dec. 21 College Basketball News RPI Report.
  • Stony Brook (107) and Albany (108) are the top teams.
  • The Seawolves have won five of their last seven games including a 71-68 victory over Hofs-tra Sunday. The Pride had an RPI of 64 entering last week.
  • The Great Danes beat St. Francis (Pa.) Saturday and have won six of their last seven games.
  • New Hampshire’s seven non-conference wins match its program record set last season.

  • UMass Lowell's win over Boston College on Dec. 6 was the first by an America East team over an ACC foe since Maine beat the Eagles on Jan. 2, 2010.
  • Jameel Warney earned his 13th career America East Player of the Week award Monday, tying Vin Baker for the second-most in league history.
  • Warney eclipsed the 1,000 career rebound mark earlier this season becoming just the sixth player in league history with 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds. 
  • Warney’s 11.0 rebounds per game are tied for 11th-best in the nation while his 3.6 blocks per contest rank second.
