The 2015-16 America East women's basketball season begins this weekend with all nine teams taking the floow. Here's a look at Friday's results and upcoming games this weekend.

Notes

  • America East teams are 5-3 through the first two days of the season.
  • Lori Gear-McBride earned her 100th career win as Vermont beat Central Connecticut, 79-63. Freshmen twin sisters, Courtney and Candice Wright, combined for 27 points on 10-for-14 shooting, while Sydney Smith added a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Blue Devils were picked third in the NEC preseason poll.
  • Maine went on the road to beat Harvard, 64-53. Sigi Koizar scored 22 points to lead the Black Bears while Liz Wood filled the stat sheet with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The Crimson were picked third in the Ivy League preseason poll.
  • Deanna Mayza’s 3-pointer with 10 seconds left pushed Hartford past Cornelle, 53-50. It was the second-straight season that Mayza has hit a game-winning shot against the Big Red.
  • Kori Bayne-Walker hit Christa Scognamiglio with a perfect backdoor pass that put Stony Brook on top, 55-53, with 27. 1 seconds left and the Seawolves went on for a 58-53 win over Iona.
  • UMass Lowell opens its season on Saturday at No. 9/6 Maryland at 2 p.m., while Binghamton is at Michigan at noon.
  • Albany (No. 14), Maine (No. 23) and Stony Brook (RV) begin the season ranked in the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25.
  • Maine’s Liz Wood ranks in the top-five of active career leaders in points, steals, rebounds, assists and 3-point field goals made.
  • There are at-least two America East teams playing every day over the first 13 days of the season.
  • 7 of the top-10 scorers in the conference return from last season, led by Albany’s Shereesha Richards. She averaged 21.0 points per game in 2014-15.
  • Albany is receiving one vote in the Coaches’ Poll.
