UNH Sweeps Week 6 #AEMSOC Accolades

BOSTON - Conference play began for America East's eight men's soccer programs Saturday and saw Binghamton, New Hampshire and Stony Brook pick up wins while Hartford and UMBC played to a 1-1 tie. 

Here are the week six award winners:

Player of the Week
Chris Wingate, New Hampshire - Jr., Midfielder, Hovik, Norway

  • Tallied the game-winning goal and an assist in New Hampshire's 3-1 victory over UMass Lowell Saturday.
  • Set up A.J. Albers' eight-minute score,
  • Ensured the Wildcats stayed unbeaten by scoring his fourth goal of the season, which came in the 77th minute.

Rookie of the Week
Chris Arling, New Hampshire - Fr., Midfielder, Windham, N.H.

  • Set up Chris Wingate's game-winning goal in New Hampshire's 3-1 win over UMass Lowell Saturday.
  • Racked up a game-high six shots.

Notes

  • Binghamton, New Hampshire and Stony Brook won their conference openers Saturday while Hartford and UMBC played to a 1-1 tie. 
  • Logan Roberts and Pascal Trappe each scored first half goals to lead Binghamton to a 2-1 win at Vermont. 
  • Chris Wingate scored a goal and added an assist as New Hampshire beat UMass Lowell, 3-1.
  • Thibault Duval's goal with 26 seconds left in double overtime gave Stony Brook a 2-1 win over Albany.
  • UMBC and Hartford played to a 1-1 tie in a rematch of last year's America East championship game. 
  • America East teams are 39-23-10 in non-conference action this season, a .611 winning percentage.
  • Eight of those wins have come over teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago (Binghamton and UMBC over Ohio State, UMBC over Oakland, Hartford and UMass Lowell over Monmouth, Albany, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire over Hartwick).
  • At 7-0-2, the Wildcats' .889 win percentage ranks among the best in the country. 
  • New Hampshire was ranked second in the NSCAA East Regional Poll last week while UMBC was seventh.
  • UMBC extended its unbeaten streak vs. America East opponents to 20 games (16-0-4). 
  • Hartford is unbeaten in its last 16 games at home (13-0-3).
  • Albany's Afonso Pinheiro scored three times last week and leads the conference with eight scores on the season.
  • Conference play continues with four games Saturday: UMBC hosts Albany (2:30 p.m), UMass Lowell at Binghamton (6 p.m.), New Hampshire hosts Stony Brook (7 p.m.), Vermont visits Hartford (7 p.m.).
