#AEWSOC Quarterfinals Set for Thursday on AmericaEast.TV

BOSTON - The America East Women's Soccer Championship kicks off on Thursday with a pair of quarterfinal games at 7 p.m. No. 3 Vermont hosts No. 6 UMBC and No. 4 Maine welcomes No. 5 New Hampshire. Both games will be available live for free on AmericaEast.TV.

No. 6 UMBC at No. 3 Vermont - 7 pm

  • Vermont beat UMBC, 3-2, in double OT on a goal by Sarah Martin with less than 2 minutes to go.
  • UMBC is 2-2-1 in the championship with the program’s lone title coming in 2013. The Retrievers are making their third-straight appearance in the tournament.
  • UMBC is making its fourth overall trip to the America East Championship.
  • Vermont is looking for its first “win” in the America East tournament at 0-7-2, however the Catamounts have advanced once in tournament when they topped Albany in 2012 in PKs.
  • Vermont is 0-4-1 all-time in the quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals once since the tournament expanded to six teams in 2001.
  • UMBC is only playing in the quarterfinal round for the second time in program history and the first time since 2005 when the Retrievers were also the No. 6 seed. The last two seasons UMBC had received a quarterfinal bye.
  • UMBC and Vermont have never met in conference tournament play.

  • Longtime rivals are meeting for just the third time in the America East Championship and the second time in the quarterfinals.
  • Maine beat New Hampshire in the meeting between the teams this season, 2-1, in overtime.
  • Teams are meeting for the first time in tournament play since 2009, a 2-1 OT win by Maine in Orono in the quarterfinals.
  • New Hampshire is 6-14-4 all-time in tournament action with one title coming last year.
  • Maine is 6-8-6 in tournament play and is looking for its first title.
