OAKVILLE, ONTARIO – Former America East men's lacrosse standout Lyle Thompson was selected first overall in the 2015 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft by the Georgia Swarm on Monday. He becomes just the second player ever to be drafted first overall in both the MLL and NLL drafts joinng former Stony Brook star Kevin Crowley.
Thompson, a two-time Tewaaraton Award winner as the men's lacrosse Player of the Year, became the first America East player to win three Player of the Year awards and was named a USILA first-team All-American for the third time in 2015. Winner of the USILA's Enners Award as its Most Outstanding Player, he also set new Division I career scoring records with 400 points and 225 assists.
Lyle will join his brother, Miles, as a member of the Swarm. The duo led the Iroquois Nation to a silver medal at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship last week.
