BOSTON - Conference play in men's soccer passed the midway point over the weekend and with just three games left for each team, only five points separates all eight teams in the league standings.
Here are the week eight award winners:
Co-Player of the Week
Jake Barros, Albany - So., Forward, Seldon, N.Y.
- Scored in each of Albany's two wins last week.
- Tallied the first goal in the Great Danes' 2-1 win over Hartford Wednesday.
- Had the game winner in a 2-1 win over UMass Lowell Saturday.
Co-Player of the Week
Brian Wright, Vermont - Jr., Forward, Ajax, Ontario
- Tallied four points in Vermont's 3-0 win over UMBC Saturday, the most by a player in a conference game this season.
- Scored a goal and added a pair of assists.
- The win snapped UMBC's league record 27-game unbeaten streak against America East foes.
- This is Wright's third career Player of the Week honor. He also earned the award Sept. 15 and Oct. 13 of last season.
Rookie of the Week
Harrison Weilbacher, Binghamton - Fr., Midfielder, Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
- Assisted on both goals in Binghamton's 2-1 win at New Hampshire Wednesday.
- Played all 200 minutes for the Bearcats last week as they went 1-0-1 to earn four key points.
Notes
- Only five points separate all eight teams in the league standings with three games to play.
- New Hampshire, Binghamton and Vermont all sit tied atop the league standings with 2-1-1 records and seven points.
- Albany and UMass Lowell, which is ineligible for the postseason, follow with six points while three-time defending champion UMBC has five, Albany has four and Hartford has two.
- Albany was the lone team to post two wins last week, as it beat Hartford and UMass Lowell, 2-1.
- The Great Danes' seven wins are their most since 2008.
- Vermont beat UMBC, 3-0, Wednesday to snap the Retrievers' 27-game unbeaten streak against league opponents.
- The league record streak dated back over three years to an Oct. 12, 2012 loss to Albany.
- America East teams are 39-26-10 in non-conference action this season, a .587 winning percentage.
- Eight of those wins have come over teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago (Binghamton and UMBC over Ohio State, UMBC over Oakland, Hartford and UMass Lowell over Monmouth, Albany, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire over Hartwick).
- Conference play continues with four games Saturday: Vermont hosts UMass Lowell (1 p.m), Binghamton entertains UMBC (1 p.m.), New Hampshire visits Albany (7 p.m.) and Stony Brook takes on Hartford (7 p.m.).
