Heavner, Yeboah, Arling Earn Week 7 #AEMSOC Accolades

BOSTON - Conference play in men's soccer continued over the weekend, resulting in four one-goal contests with UMBC, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont coming away victorious. The championship seeding picture will be heavily impacted this week as each of the eight teams play a pair of conference games.

Here are the week seven award winners: 

Co-Player of the Week
Billy Heavner, UMBC - Jr., Goalkeeper, Landisville, Pa.
 

  • Made six saves in UMBC's shutout 1-0 win over Albany, his fourth blank sheet of the season.
  • Four of those stops came in the second half with the Retrievers playing a man down for the game's final 47 minutes.
  • This is Heavner's first career Player of the Week honor.

Co-Player of the Week
Bernard Yeboah, Vermont - Jr., Forward, Worcester, Mass.

  • Tallied three points in Vermont's 2-1 win over Hartford Saturday.
  • Scored the Catamounts' first goal in the 48th minute and set up the game winner in the 83rd minute.

Rookie of the Week
Chris Arling, New Hampshire - Fr., Midfielder, Windham, N.H.

  • Set up UNH's first goal in a 3-2 win over Stony Brook Saturday.
  • This is Arling's second-straight weekly honor.

Notes

  • UMBC, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont all posted one-goal league wins Saturday.
  • Vermont scored a pair of 2nd half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory at Hartford for the team's 1st conference win of the year.
    • The loss snapped Hartford's 16-game home unbeaten streak.
  • Gregg Hauck headed home a free kick and Billy Heavner made 6 saves as UMBC beat Albany, 1-0.Wuilito Fernandes scored the lone goal of the game as UMass Lowell topped Binghamton, 1-0. 
      • UMBC is unbeaten in its last 27 games vs. America East opponents, including postseason (22-0-5), the longest such stretch in league history.
  • UNH improved to 2-0-0 in conference play with three first-half goals from three different players in a 3-2 win over Stony Brook 
  • America East teams are 39-26-10 in non-conference action this season, a .587 winning percentage.
  • Eight of those wins have come over teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago (Binghamton and UMBC over Ohio State, UMBC over Oakland, Hartford and UMass Lowell over Monmouth, Albany, UMass Lowell and New Hampshire over Hartwick).
  • Conference play continues with four games Wednesday: Vermont hosts UMBC (2:30 p.m), Binghamton at New Hampshire (7 p.m.), New Hampshire hosts Stony Brook (7 p.m.), Hartford at Albany (7 p.m.), Stony Brook at UMass Lowell (7 p.m.).
