Edwards Leads SBU to Pair of Wins, Earns #AEWSOC Honors

BOSTON - The Stony Brook Seawolves earned a pair of important victories last week and moved into fifth-place in the America East Conference standings with just two weeks remaining in league action. Stony Brook beat Albany and first-place New Hampshire behind an outstanding week from Raven Edwards. The Wildcats remain on top with a 4-1-0 record, while Vermont continues its best start to league play since 2001 in second place at 3-1-1. Hartford is the lone unbeaten team in the conference at 2-0-3.

Here are the week eight award winners:

Player of the Week
Raven Edwards, Stony Brook, Jr., F, West Orange, N.J.

  • Totaled three goals, including two game-winners, in a 2-0-0 week for Stony Brook.
  • Put home the first goal of the game in a 2-0 win over Albany.
  • Scored twice in a victory of first-place New Hampshire, handing the Wildcats their first conference loss of the year. 
  • Edwards scored the second goal of the game for the Seawolves vs. UNH, and then put home the game-winner on a penalty kick with three minutes to go in a, 3-2, win.

Rookie of the Week
Katelyn Vieira, UMass Lowell, Fr., Warwick, R.I.

  • Totaled two goals and two assists in a 1-1-0 week for the River Hawks.
  • Registered one goal and one assist in a 4-2 loss to New Hampshire.
  • Posted one goal and one assist in a 3-0 win over Binghamton, the first conference win of the year for the River Hawks.
  • Ranked second in the conference last week or six points.

Notes

  • Hartford is the lone unbeaten team in conference play at 2-0-3 after a pair of 1-1 ties. The Hawks are 7-1-4 in their last 12 matches.
  • Vermont is off to its best conference start since 2001, sitting in second place at 3-1-1.
  • UNH's Brooke Murphy led the league with seven points, scoring three goals and adding an assist in a 1-1-0 week for the Wildcats.
  • UMass Lowell's Katelyn Vieira notched the program's first hat trick since turning Division I on Monday, Sept. 28 vs. Quinnipiac.
  • Hartford head coach John Natale earned his 100th career victory with a win over Binghamton on Oct. 4.
