CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Six men's basketball teams began conference play over the weekend with UMass Lowell, Stony Brook and Albany getting off to 1-0 starts. Read about the games and weekly award winners here:

Player of the Week
Jameel Warney, Stony Brook - Jr., Plainfield, N.J.
  • Recorded his 13th double-double of the year in his lone game last week.
  • Scored 22 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Stony Brook to a win in its league opener over New Hampshire Saturday.
  • Shot of 8-of-14 from the floor and added three assists.
  • The Player of the Week honor is Warney's third in a row, fifth straight and sixth of his career.
Rookie of the Week
Jahad Thomas, UMass Lowell - R-Fr., Williamsport, Pa.
  • Averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week.
  • Led UMass Lowell to a win over Binghamton in its league opener Saturday, scoring 16 points and adding eight rebounds.
  • Had 18 points and five boards in a loss to Boston College Monday.
Notes
  • Albany, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook won their conference openers over the weekend.
  • The Great Danes used a 25-3 second-half run to blow out Maine, 80-56.
  • Jameel Warney's double-double of 22 points and 10 boards led the Seawolves to a 71-61 win over New Hampshire.
  • The River Hawks held Binghamton to just 33 percent shooting en route to a 50-40 win.
  • Stony Brook's win was its fourth in a row.
  • The Seawolves' win over Washington on Dec. 28 was the first for an America East team over a ranked opponent since Vermont beat #14 Boston College on Nov. 13, 2006.
  • Albany has won four its last five games to put head coach Will Brown within three wins over 200 for his career.
  • The Seawolves’ Jameel Warney has 13 double-doubles in 145 games this season.
  • Warney is second in the country averaging 12.3 rebounds per game.
  • UNH leads the league in both scoring offense (67.2 ppg) and scoring defense (61.7 papg).
  • Hartford’s seven non-conference wins matches its most since winning eight non-league games during the 2007-08 season.
  • Stony Brook heads to Vermont Saturday in the game of the week on ESPN3.
