BOSTON, Mass. — Back-to-back America East women’s lacrosse champion, Stony Brook University, was selected as the unanimous favorite in the 2015 preseason coaches’ poll. The Seawolves received all six possible first-place votes and 36 points in a vote of the league’s seven head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The University at Albany, which lost to the Seawolves in the 2014 America East title game, was picked second with 29 points. The University of New Hampshire came in third with 27 points, followed by the University of Vermont in fourth with 21 points. UMBC (17) and Binghamton University (11) finished fifth and sixth, respectively. UMass Lowell, which is in its first year as a program, came in seventh.
The top-four teams in the conference will advance to the America East Championship. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, in which the league champion has advanced to the quarterfinal round twice since 2008. The league tournament, slated for May 1 and 3, will be hosted by the top seed.
